Week 6 - MKTG 3349 - Social vs Search Engine Marketing
Google has been THE internet search engine since the 2000s. TikTok has only been around for a handful of years, but has already become a social media titan, bested only by YouTube. In its short time, it has come to be growing faster than even Facebook. That being said, the question arises, what is used more for when shopping for a product, which is used more? Google? TikTok? Amazon? I personally never have downloaded, nor ever will download TikTok (I'd like nothing to do with the cringe dancing Zoomers), but I did ask someone close who is much more contemporarily attuned in terms of social media. She gave me a very interesting answer. She said that when looking to discover or find out about a product she's in the market for, she turns to TikTok. When she wants to learn the details of that product found, she uses Google. And when she wants to loot at ratings for the product, she turns to Amazon, sort of a trifecta process.
In terms of what the future holds regarding product searching and digital marketing, are search engines the future, or social media? The short answer is both. Some people want to read about the specs and read reviews, while others want a commentary or a video to showcase the product/service/experience. social media is great, especially YouTube, where said good/product/service can be analyzed in depth with nothing but the attention of the viewer required. Other times, search engines would be the way to go, as a video may not be necessary or be too much for what's needed to be researched, such as restaurant reviews.
